Can You Hear Me Now???
The summit at Blue Knob attracts more than sightseers, hikers or bikers in our “off season”. It also serves as an excellent base for amateur radio folks who come from great distances just to set up their gear and chat with other radio enthusiasts from all over the country. On a gorgeous fall day, you might see the unusual sight of rigged antennas, satellite dishes and tables full of broadcasting equipment manned by these folks.
In the photos (below), Steve Gocala from Youngstown, Ohio (sitting at console) checks his frequencies as he chats with a fellow radio enthusiast somewhere in Vermont. Other radiomen on site with their own gear included Mike Heim (white shirt) and Mike Sapp.
Mike Heim also serves as Chief Engineer for a radio station group in New Castle. All three enjoyed their time on the second highest peak in Pennsylvania. They say it’s the “perfect location” to get the most out of their hobby!
